It's hard how to find out which affiliate programs you should join. How do you know which ads to choose for your sites? Yes, there are one million ad and affiliate programs for webmasters trying to earn a buck, and all of them promise success. Which ones are as good as they sound, and which are dishonest, have lousy statistics and records, and are likely to go under soon? Which ones cheat their customers? You have to rely on the posted testimony from past customers, experienced webmasters, and your own hard work and research to discover this. We can break it down the steps with this short list:

1. Check sites that give out seals of approval to sites, such as GPWA.org, which vets gambling affiliate marketing programs. If there are hoops the company must jump through in order to join, as there are in GPWA, this is a positive sign for the company. After all, it had to go the extra mile.

Do the sites you wish to promote boast of some award or seal? Research to see if that award has meaning. Many are just stage dressing, but here and there you'll find some meaningful ones.

2. Check the affiliate forums, especially those specific to the category you're promoting. Ex: For dating, check dating and personals affiliate forums. Look until you've found more than just complaints, but detailed problems and if they were ever solved.

3. Research the review sites. You'll find reviews everywhere, especially done by affiliates wishing to flatter the programs which pay them. Look for as specific and detailed information, pluses and minuses, to see if they're being realistic. With good research you'll discover which review sites are really evaluating fairly.

4. See which affiliate programs are the most popular. Do this by running your keywords and phrases through Google and other search engines, and then making a list of the top portals. (Portals are the sites of other affiliates trying to do the same thing you are.) Which programs do they promote most? That's an excellent indicator of a program that, at the very least, pays its affiliates.

 5. Experiment with a few by putting their links on your site. And then, the only way you can find if the program's brand converts is to try it out on your site. So put up the banners and your referral code and see what happens. Keep careful track of your stats and be ready to change the programs out if the program just isn't getting visitors and customers, even when you're confident your site is what it should be. Take careful note of which companies answer the phone when you call, or answer emailed questions, and so on. If they are interested in helping you sell them, that's good.

Also, the more easily they can be contacted with questions, the better. One of the most reachable companies online is Godaddy, which can be phoned day or night. And they've become the biggest registrar in the world, but they haven't stopped providing that good customer service.
